We’re kicking off the new academic year with Taco Portengen, Global Head of Quants at ING Nederland, for an inside look at what working in quantitative finance actually involves.
What does a quant do? How do different quant roles compare, and what does a typical working day look like? This session will explore the field through Taco’s own career and experience, connecting the mathematics students encounter at university with the work quants do in practice.
We’ll cover:
- What a quant is and the different roles within quantitative finance.
- Taco’s career path, professional background and the work he has done in the field.
- A day in the life of a quant, from typical responsibilities to the problems they work on.
- Career opportunities in quantitative finance, including a perspective on working at ING.
Whether you’re discovering quantitative finance for the first time or already considering a career in the industry, this session is an opportunity to hear directly from someone leading quant teams at a major bank.
