About the opportunity

The Trading Desk Operations Engineer internship is a technical, desk-facing role for students who want exposure to how trading systems and trading operations function in real time. Interns work on real projects tied directly to problems faced by Jane Street’s trading desks, with a dedicated TDOE mentor.

What you may work on

  • Managing and improving infrastructure and operational processes used by the desk.
  • Supporting trading systems and workflows through data queries and coordination with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Designing practical solutions to trading and operations problems as they arise.

The point of the programme is broader than pure operations. Interns build an understanding of the full trading-product lifecycle, including the systems supporting it, operational workflows, and relevant regulatory considerations. Jane Street also runs bootcamps and classes intended to accelerate both technical and operational knowledge.

The desks are highly collaborative, and the internship is deliberately hands-on. Jane Street notes that tools built by previous interns have had direct impact on its trading desks.

Who the programme is aimed at

For this London intake, Jane Street is looking for students planning to graduate in 2027 or 2028 and accepts applicants from all academic backgrounds. Strong quantitative foundations, an interest in improving programming skills, an interest in finance and STEM, organisation, communication, and the ability to handle competing priorities matter more than a specific major. Flights to and from London and accommodation for the full programme are provided.
